Featured in this auction is a gorgeous, antique Rookwood Pottery cabinet bowl from the Mission era. This sturdy little piece has an arts-and-crafts egg-and-dart motif of miniature lily pads encircling the collared rim of the bowl. The top rim also exhibits a unique, four-cornered design that creates visual interest. The bowl is in excellent condition with only even, overall crazing in the glaze. There are tiny pinholes in the glaze along with mild peppering and some small glaze drips, but no chips, no cracks and no repairs.The piece is 3" tall, 4-1/4" wide at the lower body, and 2-3/4" wide at the top rim opening. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 1186 and the production year XV (1915) with stilt marks and evidence of glaze grinding on the base to level it.This gorgeous glaze is a thick, matte indigo-blue underglaze with a green overspray that has curdled beautifully on the piece both inside and out, but is thick enough to obscure somewhat the design motif and marks on the base.The bowl is very clean both inside and out and is presumed to have been gently used.
